UP-AND-COMING MOTHER-DAUGHTER TRIO TO BE FEATURED AT
UNITED WAY-ATLANTA’S 100TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Tuesday, June 1, 2005 (Atlanta) Mother-daughter trio, The Harringtons, are scheduled with their full band as the entertainment for United Way’s 100th Anniversary Celebration at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta, scheduled for noon on Thursday, June 9, 2005. Hosted by WSB’s Monica Kaufman, the event will be attended by more than 300 people from companies and organizations large and small throughout the metro area including top representatives from organizations such as Coca-Cola, Georgia Power, AGL Resources, Home Depot, Georgia-Pacific, and King & Spalding.Known for versatility in genres from country-rock to pop, blues, swing, and gospel, The Harringtons recently signed with the Lowery Group to produce their first album, scheduled for a Winter/2005 release through the Southern Tracks Record Label, Atlanta. Butch Lowery, owner of the Lowery Group and Southern Tracks, praises The Harringtons as having developed “a family harmony as strong as the Andrews Sisters from a catalog of diverse songs as solid as a Carly Simon or Carole King.” He adds, “I believe the Harringtons have the capacity to attract all ages and fill the stadiums with the same fan base that enjoyed the Judds.”

It is evident that Nashville is eagerly anticipating The Harringtons’ new CD. Specifically, BMI featured The Harringtons at their prestigious showcase for “up-and-coming” performing songwriters on March 10, 2005 at “The Trap” in Nashville. Local Atlanta booking agencies had already discovered the group; Chee Ammen, long-time jazz promoter and Board Member of the Record ing Academy, featured The Harringtons at an intimate showcase performance at the Fitzpatrick Hotel in Washington, Georgia in February 2005. Other 2005 performances have included Nashville’s French Quarter, Atlanta’s Eddie’s Attic, Roswell’s Swallow at the Hollow, Unity North Atlanta Church, and Kennesaw Mountain’s Easter Sunrise Service. The timing of the debut of this family band, and their album from Southern Tracks Records, honors the legendary Lowery Group, which has always exemplified the close-knit and successful experience of a family music industry business. The late Bill Lowery, one of the first two initial inductees into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame (along with Ray Charles), founded the Lowery Group in the 1950’s. Both the Lowery Group office and Southern Tracks Studio are still based in Atlanta after five decades of continual success in the music industry. The Lowery Group produced and published some of the world’s most famous writers and bands, including Joe South, Billy Joe Royal, and the Atlanta Rhythm Section.

As lead singer-songwriter-teacher-mother with a vast catalog of original songs and five published CDs, Cindy Lou Harrington is an award-winning community volunteer as well as an award-winning songwriter. BMI (Nashville) and the Lowery Group (Atlanta) are leading the Harrington family through the music industry channels necessary to become the newest musical family/protégé out of the Southeast. A long-time friend of the Lowerys, Bruce Burch, Vice President of Sho-Bud Music and an executive with EMI Publishing/Nashville, is a core supporter of Harrington’s songwriting and her new family-band sound. After viewing their most recent music video, Burch stated, “Family harmonies are always special and the Harringtons have a distinctive sound...their songs are unique and their exciting stage performance is the icing on the cake."

Some of Cindy Lou Harrington’s previous local and regional accomplishments include: winner of the prestigious “Big Heart Award” from Civitan Georgia; five “Best of Country” awards for original songwriting, from the Georgia Music Industry Association; three National Anthem solo performances for the opening of the Atlanta Braves games; opening act at the Fabulous Fox Theatre; her original song “The First Bright Star” was written and sung by Arista recording artist Geoff McBride for the 51st annual lighting of Rich’s Great Tree; her original song “Let Me Win” was written and used statewide as an anthem for the Georgia Special Olympics and was performed at the 1996 Paralympics Torch Ceremony; she was named “Recording Artist of the Year” by the Atlanta Society of Entertainers; and more.

Ed Pucko, the Director of Licensing and spokesman for the Lowery Group, proudly announced that the Lowery Group is giving its full support to The Harringtons. “Family-influenced music has had an historical impact on the roots of country music. The Lowerys are convinced that Atlanta can fill a niche with its own brand of Southern family talent, The Harringtons.” Pucko’s belief in the group is strong. He states, “The blend of Cindy Lou’s velvety vocal with Taylor’s sweet soprano and Brittany’s smooth alto creates a naturally rich harmony that is filling a music industry gap--a gap we see is satisfied by this multi-generational mother-daughter family band. He goes on to say that “their strong live performances combined with Cindy Lou’s songwriting are an unbeatable combination.”

Cindy Lou Harrington’s work with blind and disabled students in the DeKalb County Schools has inspired many of her original songs. Utilizing music and song in her teaching has both broadened Harrington’s experience and inspired the families of these students. Several of Harrington’s students have been given the opportunity to sing and even perform on stage with various personalities such as Aretha Franklin, Jesse Jackson and Senator Max Cleland.

Harrington’s daughters are equally as remarkable and aspiring as their mother. Brittany, age 19, is the techo-musical talent of the family and is a sophomore at Georgia State University majoring in Sound Technology and Communications. She was the first President of the Junior Board of Directors of the Georgia Music Industry Association in 2004, and she managed a monthly Open Mic Night at a club in Athens and Atlanta’s Red Light Café. Taylor, age 15, is enrolled in gifted classes at Parkview High, is a Governor’s Honors Program nominee, and was a featured performer on the top country radio station, Kicks 101.5, at the early age of nine.
